What is the story about?

Cameron Carr will continue honoring his family in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers by keeping the same jersey number he has worn at each stop of his basketball career.

Carr wore No. 43 at Manhattan High School in Kansas and at the Link Academy in Missouri. He kept it over his first two years in college at Tennessee and again last season at Baylor, en route to a third-team All-Big 12 selection with the Bears.

The 24th overall pick wears No. 43 because his father, Chris, donned it throughout his six-year NBA career and his sister, Christianna, wore it in college. He will become the eighth player in franchise history to wear it, and the first since Brian Cook (2005-2008).

"(It is) a family number," Carr said last month, via the NBA on X. "My dad

wore it in the NBA. My sister wore it in college, so I'm just continuing the legacy."

Carr averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 37.4% from 3-point range in 34 games last season at Baylor. He was also named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer team after finishing with 642 points, the fifth-most in a season in program history.

The 21-year-old debuted with the Lakers in summer league, averaging 17.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and one assist while shooting 42.3% from the field in seven appearances. He scored 20 or more points twice, including a 26-point performance on July 5.

Carr was highly touted out of college and should have the opportunity to compete for rotation minutes in training camp next month. The team was ecstatic to add him to the roster and is excited to see him take the court next season.
