The Charlotte Hornets hosted the Washington Wizards Monday evening for their third game in a span of four days. Once again, the Hornets were shorthanded, playing without the likes of Grant Williams, Coby White and Kon Knueppel. The Wizards weren't at full strength either, most notably missing recent No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa.
While the contest was closely contested to start out, Charlotte outscored Washington 35-23 in the second quarter, taking a 10-point lead into the halftime break. Although the Wizards would mount a late comeback attempt in the fourth, the trio of Brandon Miller, Naz Reid and Moussa Diabate were way too much to overcome, as the Hornets held on to a 110-103 victory.
Miller scored a career-high 39 points, his best game of
the early season. The former Alabama forward also added six rebounds, one assist, three steals and two blocks. As for Reid, he scored 16 of his 18 points in the final frame, adding 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Lastly, Diabate was nothing short of dominant on the glass, finishing the contest with 11 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, one steal and three blocks. Of his 17 rebounds, 11 came on the offensive glass, creating second-chance points for Charlotte.
Looking ahead, the Hornets will travel to Detroit for Wednesday's matchup against the Pistons.
