After a disappointing loss to the Atlanta Hawks Friday night, the Charlotte Hornets had a chance to get back in the win column Saturday, hosting the 0-2 Miami Heat. Right from the beginning, the Hornets looked like a completely different team, more aggressive on offense and more polished on both ends of the floor.
Leading by eight at halftime, the Hornets built up a big lead in the third quarter, outscoring Miami 30-17, in large part due to the trio of Brandon Miller, Naz Reid and Dennis Schroder. However, the Heat came roaring back in the fourth quarter, going on a 24-4 run, tying things up at 100 with just under six minutes left to play. From there, Charlotte stayed composed, as Grayson Allen drilled key free throws down the stretch to help
the Hornets preserve a 115-110 victory.
Brandon Miller finished with a game-high 34 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and four blocks. Dennis Schroder put his touches on the game with brilliant play-making, finishing the contest with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. Naz Reid, who played phenomenal defense on Giannis Antetokounmpo throughout the night, finished with 23 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and only one turnover.
As for Miami, their star, the aforementioned Antetokounmpo, struggled, scoring 14 points on 4-for-11 shooting before fouling out after 25 minutes of play. Davion Mitchell led the Heat in scoring, posting a 22-point 10-assist double-double.
Now 2-1, Charlotte will have Sunday off before hosting the Washington Wizards Monday. Miami, who is still winless (0-3), will host the Dallas Mavericks Monday.
