New York Knicks second-round pick Jack Kayil will remain in Europe for the 2026-27 season after signing a five-year contract to return to Alba Berlin in Germany.
Kayil was the 39th overall pick after averaging 12.2 points, 3.6 assists, three rebounds and one steal while shooting 37.7% from the field last season, helping his team to the German League title. He was named the 2026 Bundesliga Best Young Player.
The 20-year-old said at the draft and throughout summer league that he wanted to join the Knicks next season. However, the Knicks reportedly planned for him to stay in Europe to further develop, which resulted in a new contract with Alba Berlin.

Kayil was highly touted entering the draft this year out of Germany because of his versatility and ability to play either guard position. He is a crafty scorer who can get into the paint and finish, pull up in the mid-range or hit a smooth step-back shot.
The 6-foot-3 Kayil logged four appearances with the Knicks last month in Las Vegas, averaging 8.8 points, 3.5 assists, three rebounds and 1.8 steals while shooting 34.2% from the field. He finished in double figures twice, including a 19-point effort on July 13.
By returning to Germany, Kayil will have the chance to further develop his game and prepare for the NBA. The team is excited about his potential on the court and will be closely monitoring his progress next season.
