The Charlotte Hornets received unfortunate injury news Monday afternoon, as Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that point guard Coby White suffered a left calf strain during training camp, which will prohibit him from playing in Charlotte's preseason games. This is the Hornets' third injury sustained this offseason, as another starter, Kon Knueppel, suffered a hamstring strain. As did stretch four Grant Williams. Along with White, Knueppel and Williams are not expected to play during the preseason.
Following a trade from the Chicago Bulls at last February's trade deadline, White performed well off the bench, averaging 15.6 points, three rebounds, three assists and 0.2 steals in 19.3 minutes. Following the departure of LaMelo Ball, White is expected
to be a full-time starter for the Hornets during the 2026-27 campaign. If unable to suit up in Charlotte's season opener (Oct. 21) against the Brooklyn Nets, backup point guard Dennis Schroder will be waiting in the wings. Schroder is as experienced as they come, with 13 seasons and 912 appearances under his belt.
