NBA Hall of Famers Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter recently discussed potential breakout candidates on their podcast, citing a Charlotte Hornets forward as a legitimate contender. For McGrady, he believes that Hornets forward Brandon Miller will take a leap during the 2026-27 season with increased responsibilities on offense.
"I think B (Brandon) Miller can turn the corner. LaMelo is gone, right? (With) him having a bigger role this year, he should be a guy that averages 25-26 points, taking that next step. Depending on what I see from him this year is going to determine, alright, he's going to be the franchise. Because I think this year should be that year where we say, 'Yeah, that's your franchise guy.'"
Even alongside Ball last season, Miller
led the Hornets in scoring, averaging 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, one steal and 0.7 blocks. Shooting efficiency was also a strong suit for the former Alabama forward, converting on a career-high 38.3% of 3-point attempts and knocking down a career-best 89.2% of free throws. While he will be tasked with creating his own shot much more often after Ball's departure, Miller and his teammate Kon Knueppel have proved themselves capable of leading the Hornets' offense.
