Miami Heat rookie Ryan Conwell threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Miami Marlins on Monday as they began a three-game home series against the Boston Red Sox.
Conwell took the mound at loanDepot park wearing a custom-made home white jersey, featuring his name on the back of it. The lefty delivered the pitch to outfielder Griffin Conine behind the plate, with the two embracing afterward for a picture.
The 37th overall pick witnessed a competitive matchup between the two teams, with the Red Sox (72-59) emerging with a 4-2 win after plating two runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Conwell was named to the All-ACC second team last season at Louisville, averaging 18.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 34.5% from
3-point range. He ranked 13th in the country in total 3s (112) and fifth in the conference in scoring.
The 22-year-old logged four appearances with the Heat in summer league, averaging 20.5 points, four rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 41.7% from the field. He scored 16 or more points in each game, including a 26-point effort on July 6.
Conwell has the potential to play a significant role for the Heat following their offseason additions of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson. The team is high on his potential and is excited to see him take the court next season.
