This offseason, community engagement has been a main focus for Charlotte Hornets players and staff as the 2026-27 season nears. Led by Hornets head coach Charles Lee, Lee has encouraged his players to engage with fans and organizations in the city of Charlotte throughout the offseason.
Recently, a handful of Charlotte Hornets players did just that, coming together for Brandon Miller's Celebrity Pickleball Classic, hosted by the Team Miller Foundation. While there, Miller was joined by many from the Hornets organization, including coach Lee, Kon Knueppel, Coby White, Liam McNeeley and former 10-year point guard Muggsy Bogues.
Miller had a chance to catch up with the Charlotte Observer, discussing what it means to support his teammates and the city
he plays in, saying, “Being there for our teammates, showing up for events like this. I went to Grant’s golf tournament this year, been to Grant’s camp this year, plan on going to Coby White’s camp. It’s just showing up for the guys. That’s all we can ask for. We see them every day throughout the season, but showing up for stuff and their needs is kind of important to them as a player.”
Although the Hornets have a playoff drought that spans back to the 2015-16 season, the hiring of Lee in 2024 has marked a shift in culture for Charlotte that has continued to grow. Looking ahead to this fall, the Hornets will hope to use the chemistry and unity they've built with one another at events like these throughout a long 82-game regular season.
