As the 20th overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft, forward Jayden Quaintance joins the San Antonio Spurs after two years in college at Arizona State and Kentucky.
Quaintance was limited to four games last season at Kentucky after dealing with the effects of a torn ACL and meniscus suffered in February 2025 at Arizona State. He averaged 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals with the Sun Devils.
The 6-foot-10 Quaintance underwent surgery to address the injury on July 15 after stating on draft night that another procedure would be necessary. The team worked with his representation to determine his next steps and will provide an update on his return as appropriate.
Quaintance was highly touted entering the draft because of his
defensive skill set and size at 255 pounds. He also showcased a growing offensive game, but it was his rim protection, physicality and upside that stood out to the Spurs perhaps the most.

High School
Quaintance, born in Cleveland, played at several high school programs, including Hillcrest Prep and Dream City Christian in Arizona and Word of God in North Carolina. He was selected as a McDonald's All-American as a senior during the 2023-24 season.
Haminn Quaintance
Quaintance is the son of Haminn Quaintance, who played college basketball at Kent State and Jacksonville. He played overseas for several years, including with teams in Germany, Israel and Japan.
Kyrie Irving
Quaintance has consistently called nine-time All-Star Kyrie Irving his favorite player to watch growing up. He also named Hall of Famer Tim Duncan his favorite Spur.
USA Basketball
Quaintance represented USA Basketball at the 2023 FIBA U16 Americas Championship alongside AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and Koa Peat. He helped the group win the gold medal, averaging 6.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in six appearances.
Anime
Quaintance enjoys watching anime as an off-court hobby. He also likes to play chess and named the knight as his favorite piece. He is hopeful to eventually challenge new teammate and noted chess player Victor Wembanyama.
