The Los Angeles Lakers announced Thursday that rookie Cameron Carr was among two players assigned to their G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers.
Carr missed the start of the regular season due to a right oblique strain suffered during training camp and has been out of the rotation for coach JJ Redick. He eventually debuted on Nov. 1 and has logged 3 1/2 total minutes in mop-up duty.
Along with Carr, third-year guard Bronny James was also assigned to Coachella Valley ahead of its season opener on Friday in Palm Desert at Acrisure Arena. The two will have the chance to log extended minutes, as minutes are scarce.
Carr averaged 12 points, two steals, 1.5 rebounds and one assist while shooting 40% from 3-point range this preseason. He debuted
on Oct. 5 with 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in a win over the Sacramento Kings.
The 24th overall pick was highly touted out of Baylor, finishing with the fifth-most points in a season in program history (642). He flourished as a scorer while flashing his athleticism and leaping ability, traits he has shown in a limited sample with the Lakers.
Carr impressed the team throughout training camp, with coach Redick gushing about his potential on the court. While he isn't contributing yet, time in the G League should get Carr ready when the opportunity arises.
