Former first-round pick from the Charlotte Hornets, Nick Smith Jr. has agreed to sign a one-year contract overseas with Real Madrid, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto. Smith Jr. played three seasons in the NBA, two with Charlotte and one last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. During his tenure with the Hornets, the former Arkansas Razorback averaged eight points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.2 steals and 0.1 blocks in 111 appearances. His strongest campaign came during the 2024-25 season, where he averaged 9.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.3 steals.
With Los Angeles last season, Smith Jr. didn't see the floor as often, making just 30 appearances and averaging 12.5 minutes per game. Now in Madrid, Smith Jr. will join a roster
littered with former NBA players, including Damian Jones, Chuma Okeke, Usman Garuba, Max Shulga and Facundo Campazzo.
