With the 2026-27 NBA season less than a week away, Utah fans are eager to see a revamped Jazz squad behind a healthy Jaren Jackson Jr. and recent No. 2 overall pick Darryn Peterson. Peterson, who could have easily been the No. 1 overall pick in a weaker draft class, has turned heads this summer with his scoring and playmaking ability.
As his rookie season approaches, a former Utah Jazz player and coach gave the Kansas alum a vote of confidence. “They had another guard there for a lot of years, John Stockton, and did a lot of great things with him. And another guard in Deron Williams, who did a lot of great things there. They have a history of taking point guards and building around them. Hopefully that continues with him,” said Tyrone Corbin,
a 16-year NBA veteran, in an interview with Kyle Odegard.
Corbin, a former No. 35 overall pick spent three years with Utah as a player and later became their head coach for parts of four seasons. In his playing days, Corbin's most impressive season came during the 1989-90 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he averaged 14.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.1 steals and 0.5 blocks. As a head coach, Corbin's strongest season was with the 2012-13 Jazz, who finished 43-39.
