Sunday was a special day for current Charlotte Hornets forward Tidjane Salaun, as he had the pleasure of delivering good news to his older sister. Tidjane's sister, Janelle Salaun, became the first unanimous Sixth Player of the Year Award winner in WNBA history, representing the Golden State Valkyries. In a video posted to social media by the Valkyries, Salaun surprised his sister with the news via facetime as she was surrounded by her teammates in the locker room.
During the 2026 regular season for Golden State, Salaun averaged 12.7 points, four rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.6 steals in 40 contests. Salaun also posted career-high marks from the field (42.5%) and from 3-point range (39.2%). Throughout the year, Janelle set records for the most
points scored (509) and 3-pointers made (93) off the bench. Currently, Salaun and the Valkyries are in the midst of a deep playoff run, holding a 1-0 series lead against the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA Semifinals.
As for her younger brother Tidjane, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, he's preparing for his third NBA season, having recently completed training camp with the Hornets at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. In 97 career appearances, the Frenchman holds career averages of 5.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, one assist and 0.5 steals.
