Former Charlotte Hornets point guard and franchise legend Muggsy Bogues was the first player in team history to wear the No. 1. After one season with the Washington Bullets, Bogues was selected as the No. 6 pick in the 1988 expansion draft that included both the Hornets and Heat. Following the selection, the 5'3" guard had a memorable tenure in Charlotte, spending 10 consecutive seasons with the Hornets before being sent to the Golden State Warriors in a trade for B.J. Armstrong.
In 632 games for Charlotte, Bogues averaged 8.8 points, 8.8 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.7 steals. After his stint with the Warriors, the former No. 12 overall pick would play two more seasons with the Toronto Raptors, ending his NBA career after the 2000-01 season.
To this day, Bogues remains involved in the Charlotte community, having joined many current Hornets players at an event hosted by Brandon Miller's foundation in August.
