Amen Thompson scored a career-high 18.3 points per game for the Houston Rockets
during the 2025-26 season, but it wasn't because of his outside shooting. Thompson struggled to convert on 3-pointers, shooting just 21.6% from beyond the arc. However, Thompson excelled when it came to getting to the basket, scoring easy looks inside. Thompson shot 63.2% from inside the paint, going 509-for-806 during the season. But what's even more impressive is the number of dunks that Thompson threw down. Despite being listed at 6'7", Thompson recorded 201 dunks, an average of 2.54 per contest. This ranked Thompson second in the league in dunks, behind only Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Of the top 10, Thompson was one of two players listed under 6'10",
the other being OG Annunoby of the New York Knicks, who ranked in a tie for ninth with 126 dunks on the season.
Given his athleticism, speed and finishing ability, Thompson's scoring at the rim should continue during the 2026-27 season. That said, if he were to unlock his jump shot, his improved shooting would offer him more opportunities to beat defenders off the dribble.
