NBA Hall of Famer and current broadcaster Steve Nash recently appeared on a podcast, discussing many headlines entering the 2026-27 season, including the Houston Rockets. While Nash isn't ready to call them favorites in the Western Conference, the two-time MVP believes that they can fly under the radar.
"You have three young players there that can develop a lot, and they may take a leap when you talk about Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard."
"Those three young guys still have a lot of upside. If they all improve a little bit, let alone if one of them takes a bigger jump, that's a team that can really be slept on."
A former point guard himself, Nash also believes the return of Fred VanVleet will work wonders on and off the floor. After
finishing one win away from fourth in the West a season ago and two wins away from third, the Rockets are hopeful to have a healthy season and propel themselves into a top-four spot.
