The Houston Rockets took the court for their first of two preseason matchups in China, Friday, defeating the Dallas Mavericks in an all-around team performance. Tari Eason scored a game-high 20 points off the bench, to go along with nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and zero turnovers.
Kevin Durant added 15 points on 7-for-12 shooting, while Fred VanVleet (17 points, seven assists and two steals) and Steven Adams (two points and three rebounds) looked encouraging in their return from injury. However, it was Alperen Sengun who captured the spotlight, showcasing his skills as a ball handler and distributor. The Turkish big man finished the contest with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and one steal in 22 minutes.
Earlier in the week, Sengun
had the chance to link up with a Rockets legend and the greatest Chinese basketball player in NBA history, Yao Ming. At 7'6", Ming still towered over the 6'11" Sengun. That said, the get-together provided a chance for past and present Rockets big men to meet and take a photo with one another. Ming spent all of his eight seasons with the Rockets, averaging 19 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.4 steals and 1.9 blocks.
