The Houston Rockets have locked up a key piece of their franchise for the long term. As the franchise moves forward with its chase for the Larry O'Brien, they will make sure Amen Thompson will be a part of whatever success the franchise has.
The Rockets will reportedly agree to a 5-year $208 million deal with the 3-year man from Overtime Elite. Thompson averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.3 rebounds along with 1.5 steals in the 2025-26 season while finishing eighth in the voting for Defensive Player of the Year. The offense is still something that needs to come along, specifically his outside shot, but Thompson does so many things on the floor at an elite level and the Rockets need that type of production on an every night basis.

Thompson upped his production in the playoffs to 19.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.2 blocks as Houston fell short to the Los Angeles Lakers in Round 1. He played 44 minutes a night in the postseason as Thompson showed off his ability to produce despite any big minutes Houston might have him out there for.
