Former Houston Rockets center Daniel Theis has signed a new EuroLeague deal, making a return to the NBA unlikely at this point in his career. After previously playing for Monaco, Theis will now move to Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv on a two-year deal. There he'll join a few former NBA players: Lonnie Walker IV, Oshae Brissett and TJ Leaf.
Theis signed a four-year $36 million contract with the Rockets ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, but wasn't in Houston for long, as he was traded back to his first NBA franchise (Boston Celtics) 26 games later for a return package headlined by veteran point guard Dennis Schroder.
In those 26 games with a Rockets uniform, Theis made 21 starts, averaging 8.4 points, five rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.7 blocks in 22.5
minutes per game. Theis has not played in the NBA since the 2024-25 season, when he appeared in 38 games for the New Orleans Pelicans.
