In the Arizona Cardinals' 31-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, 18 players participated in at least one of the 50 offensive snaps.
Prior to the final two plays, the offense managed 20 yards in the final two quarters on 12 plays.
Head coach Mike LaFleur said there was “no fluidity” in the second half, adding, “the three-and-out, six-and-out, three-and-out. When that happens, you're not going to have yards. When you play the best defense in ball, you have to do all the little things right. You don't have to be extraordinary, but you have to do the ordinary extra that we hang our hat on really well and we did not do that today."
How was the playing time divided up?
The first number after each name is their snap count, and the second is the percentage.
Players in bold were starters.
Quarterbacks
- Jacoby Brissett (50/100)
- Did not play: Gardner Minshew II
- Inactive: Carson Beck (emergency QB)
Very little went right after a promising first game of the season. While Brissett completed 60.7 percent of his passes, the completions total an abysmal 95 yards (5.6 per catch). The longest completion was nine yards. He was sacked twice and a bad interception (“bad decision,” he said) that plummeted his passer taking even lower to 63.8. Brissett contributed seven yards on one scramble run.
He said, “For really good teams, you can't waste plays. I know it's like coach talk or like the same thing — it’s just how important the details are of each play because you never know which play is going to be the play that is the important one.”
Running backs
- Tyler Allgeier (32/64), Jeremiyah Love (20/40), Bam Knight (3/6)
- Reserve/injured: James Conner (eligible to return after Week 4), Trey Benson
Not including Knight’s 24 yards that included an 18-yard long on the final two plays of the game, Allgeier and Love combined for 39 yards on 14 carries (2.8 average). Love was 9-29 (3.2 average) with a nine-yard run, while Allgeier was 5-10 and a five-yard long. Love had three receptions for 16 yards and one Of Brissett’s nine-yard plays, while Allgeier was 2-9.
Wide receivers
- Michael Wilson (47/94), Marvin Harrison Jr. (37/74), Kendrick Bourne (30/60), Simi Fehoko (6/12), Jalen Brooks (2/4)
- Did not play: Devin Duvernay (played only on special teams)
- Inactive: Reggie Virgil
Harrison had another disappearing act with no receptions on one target. In two games, he has one catch on four targets. Wilson was targeted seven times, but caught only two for 18 yards and one of the nine-yarders. Bourne, who was a key target in Week 1, had only thee and caught two for 11 yards.
Tight ends
- Trey McBride (44/88), Hunter Long (15/30), Elijah Higgins (13/26)
- Reserve/PUP: Tip Reiman (eligible to practice after Week 2 and play after Week 4)
- Reserve/injured: Jamison Geers
As usual, McBride was the focal point with 10 targets and eight receptions. He did have a touchdown pass on a two-yard play, but his eight grabs averaged a mere 5.1 yards. His long was also nine yards.
Offensive linemen
- LT Paris Johnson Jr. (50/100), LG Isaac Seumalo (50/100), C Hjalte Froholdt (50/100), RG Isaiah Adams (50/100), RT Elijah Wilkinson (50/100), T Jayden Williams (1/2)
- Did not play: G/C Jon Gaines II, G/C Hayden Conner (both played only on special teams)
- Inactive: T Josh Fryar
- Reserve/injured: G Chase Bisontis
This was a difficult outing for the line, going against one of the best fronts in the league. It was complicated by Adams returning to the field for the first time since injuring his knee during practice prior to the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys (Aug. 22). He was limited in practice all week, while Seumalo (shoulder) was limited for two days after not practicing on Wednesday.
