The Arizona Cardinals played 68 offensive snaps in their 33-30 preseason-opening loss to the Carolina Panthers. As preseason games often go, nobody played every snap. A total of 25 players saw action on offense.
How was the playing time divided up, and what did we learm from it?
Quarterback
Carson Beck, 42; Kedon Slovis, 26
Beck played one series into the second half. Slovis finished the game. Both played very well, although we know how the roster battle will play out. Slovis is auditioning for other teams around the league.
Running back
Bam Knight, 31; Corey Kiner, 28; Edward Hull, 9
Trey Benson did not play. He had a flare-up of his surgically repaired knee. Hull saw playing time late in the game, and he is at the back of the depth chart. Knight and Kiner both have a real
shot at the roster as the fourth running back.
Wide receiver
Reggie Virgil, 47; Xavier Weaver, 46; Bryson Green, 38; Simi Fehoko, 21; Jalen Brooks, 20; Harrison Wallace III, 19
Brooks and Virgil had the most productive game. Green and Fehoko had touchdown catches. Weaver saw time early as a slot receiver. Virgil, a Day 3 rookie, needs reps and experience.
Tight end
Rivaldo Fairweather, 35; Jameson Geers, 27; Kenny Yeboah, 19
Yeboah got hurt at some point, as he was placed on injured reserve on Saturday. It will be a surprise if any of these players make the final roster.
Offensive line
Chase Bisontis, 42; Hayden Conner, 42; Jayden Williams, 42; Josh Fryar, 42; Jon Gaines, 42; Oli Udoh, 26; Matt Pryor, 26; Valentin Senn, 26; Ka'ena De Cambra, 26; Demontrey Jacobs, 16; Christian Jones, 10
Since none of the five starting offensive linemen played, we can look at the five who started and project that as many as four of those guys will make the roster.
