The San Francisco 49ers have suffered a big defensive setback ahead of their Week 3 home game against the Arizona Cardinals. Defensive end Nick Bosa injured his calf in practice this week and will miss several weeks. The team is considering whether he will be placed on injured reserve, which would mean missing a minimum of four games.
He is the sixth defensive lineman on the team to get hurt since the start of the season.
He did not have a sack in the Niners' first two games, but he had seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a QB hit.
The 49ers still do not have 2025 first-round pick Mykell Williams, another defensive end, back from PUP, as he recovers from a torn ACL in Week 9 last season. He is expected to return to practice next week, so that
won't help them against the Cardinals.
Bosa has been listed as a non-participant through two days of practice in Week 3, according to their injury report, but it was listed as non-injury-related and his knee.
The Cardinals will now have a slightly easier time on Sunday facing San Francisco's pass rush, although five other players have sacks for them through two games.
The Cardinals and 49ers kick off Sunday at Levi's Stadium at 4:05 p.m. ET (1:05 p.m. Arizona time).
