The Arizona Cardinals have struggled with their opening drive defense this season through three games. They have been prone to big plays.
In three games, they have allowed three opening-drive touchdowns.
In Week 1, the Los Angeles Chargers went 77 yards in eight plays, giving up pass plays of 18, 23 and 19 yards to receiver Ladd McConkey.
Against the Seattle Seahawks, they gave a two-play, 86-yard drive. Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was left uncovered, and Drew Lock threw him an 82-yard touchdown pass.
On Sunday against the 49ers, it was another 82-yard touchdown. On the Niners' second play of the game, Brock Purdy threw a two-yard completion to Mike Evans, who then lateraled the ball to Deebo Samuel. Samuel outran Mack Wilson and Budda Baker, going
80 yards for the touchdown.
In the last two games, it put the Cardinals in 7-0 holes early in the game.
This isn't a way to win football games.
