The Arizona Cardinals are 2-5 after a 30-16 loss at home to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. It was their fifth loss in six games. Since the postseason seems highly unlikely at this point, as they are in last place in the NFC West nearly midway through the season, their spot in the order of the 2027 NFL draft is something to watch.
A week ago, after their win over the LA Rams, they would have had the ninth overall pick.
A week later, after a bad loss, they didn't move up. They remain ninth in the draft order. They are one of seven teams with a 2-5 record. However, strength of schedule is the tiebreaker, and the Cardinals' strength of schedule is .564, higher than four of the other six teams sitting at 2-5.
Top 10 picks of 2027 NFL draft entering Week 8
Here are the top 10 in the draft order right
now.
- Los Angeles Chargers, 0-6
- Tennessee Titans, 1-6
- Miami Dolphins, 1-5
- Washington Commanders, 1-4-1
- Philadelphia Eagles, 2-5 (.446 SOS - strength of schedule)
- New York Jets, 2-5 (.511 SOS)
- Houston Texans, 2-5 (.511 SOS)
- New York Jets (from Indianapolis Colts, 2-5 (.533 SOS))
- Arizona Cardinals, 2-5 (.564 SOS)
- New Orleans Saints, 2-5 (.628 SOS)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are No. 11, also with a 2-5 record and .652 SOS.
Sadly, the Cardinals' SOS won't likely get better over the next few weeks. They face the 3-4 Dallas Cowboys but then have the 4-3 Seattle Seahawks and a 3-4 Los Angeles Rams team who could be 5-4 when they meet in Week 10. Then they play the 5-1 Kansas City Chiefs.
The Cardinals are a bad team with not a very good draft pick, which isn't the best combination.
