The Arizona Cardinals announced a roster move on Saturday that suggests there is bad news for outside linebacker Josh Sweat. Sweat suffered a groin injury during the week of practice and was listed as questionable on the Cardinals' final injury report of the week.
On Saturday, the Cardinals elevated rookie outside linebacker Cameron Robertson to the active roster as a standard elevation. That signals there is at least a chance Sweat won't be able to play. It would appear that Sweat traveled with the team because, had he not been able to, the team would have had to announce formally that he was downgraded to out for the game.
If Sweat is unable to go, Robertson would give the Cardinals five outside linebackers available to play, which is what they
have used in their first three games.
Sweat has not had any sacks or quarterback hits this season yet, but he is still the team's most dangerous rusher. If he is unable to play, that makes what has been a week defense the last two weeks even weaker.
The starters would be Zaven Collins and Baron Browning, with Jordan Burch, Eku Leota and Robertson rotating in.
The Cardinals and Giants kick off on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. Arizona time). Inactives will be announced 90 minutes before that, so Cardinals fans will know Sunday morning for sure whether Sweat will be able to suit up.
