We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Friday, September 11, is two days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
With two days until Week 1, let's look back at the 2002 season for the Cardinals.
A look back at the 2002 season for the Cardinals
Things started promisingly for the Cardinals in 2002. They opened the season 4-2. That ws it, though. They lost their next six games in a row and nine of their final 10 to finish 5-11. They were bad on offense and defense, ranking 29th in points scored and 29th in points allowed.
It was quarterback Jake Plummer's final season with the Cardinals. They scored 14 or fewer points in six of their final 10 games.
2002 individual honors, leaders
They had zero Pro Bowlers in
2002.
Plummer led the team in passing with 2,972 yards, 18 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
Marcel Shipp was their best offensive player with 1,247 total yards. He led the team with 834 rushing yards and six touchdowns, and he caught 38 passes for 413 yards and three scores. He had the most receptions on the team.
David Boston had 32 catches for a team-high 512 yards. He only scored one touchdown.
Defensively, linebackers Raynoch Thompson and Ronald McKinnon led the team in tackles. Thompson had 110, while McKinnon was right behind with 108. Kyle Vanden Bosch's 3.5 sacks led the team. Adrian Wilson's four interceptions were the most on the team, and cornerback David Barrett broke up 11 passes.
