The Arizona Cardinals will face the New York Giants on Sunday in Week 4. The Giants are 2-1 and have an interesting run defense, which might mean good news for Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love or perhaps not.
The Giants currently rank 12th in the league in run defense, allowing 104.3 rushing yards per game. They have had two very good games stopping the run, allowing 69 and 81 in their wins over the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans. They struggled in their loss to the LA Rams, allowing 163 to them.
The metric that could excite Cardinals fans is the average per rush the Giants are allowing.
In three games, opponents average 4.7 yards per rushing attempt, which is 25th in the league.
Love averaged 4.2 yards on 21 carries last week in
the Cardinals' 36-30 loss, but in his other two games, he averaged 3.2 and 3.7 yards per carry.
On Sunday, the run defense metric that prevails could decide the outcome of the game. If the Giants keep the Cardinals under 100 rushing yards, then Arizona probably will struggle offensively. If Love is ripping off larger gains and averaging five yards a carry, the Cardinals should have a smooth offensive game.
