Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love started the season recovering from a high ankle sprain he suffered in the preseason. He is dealing with more ankle issues, and it is contributing to his absence on the field at times.
He was seen on the sideline with trainers looking at his ankle and he wasn't on the field at the end of the game when the Cardinals had a chance to take the lead and win.
Head coach Mike LaFleur said on Monday that Love has been dealing with the ankle he didn't originally sprain.
“It’s a different one," he told reporters on Monday. "He’s been dealing with it for a little bit, but it’s just a management type thing. He tweaks it and then he feels fine. We’re just trying to manage that. He’s doing a good job with it too.”
So in four NFL games and one preseason appearance, Love has managed to sprain both ankles.
He has rushed for 223 yards and a touchdown, averging 4.1 yards per carry in four games so far. He has also caught 11 passes for 33 yards and a touchdown.
His health will be something to watch as the season progresses. Ankle injuries can linger for weeks, as has apparently been the case so far.
