Just two days ago on Monday, following the news that the Arizona Cardinals had lost receiver Jalen Brooks for the season with a wrist injury, head coach Mike LaFleur said that a "committee of receivers" would fill Brooks' role.
Brooks had become the Cardinals' starting 'X' receiver following the trade of Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Houston Texans.
However, the Cardinals' latest depth chart release suggests that perhaps, they have new plans, and that means a new role for receiver Michael Wilson.
Wilson has been the Cardinals' starting 'Z' receiver, lining up primarily on the offensive right side in two and three-receiver sets.
Wilson is now listed as the No. 1 'X' receiver, with Kendrick Bourne now listed as the top 'Z'.
Wilson had his big season in
2025, and his production came when he was playing the 'X' position last year, filling in for Harrison and Zay Jones when they were both injured.
This change in the depth chart might simply be moving names around, but it will be something to watch this weekend against the Dallas Cowboys. We could see him lining up more on the offensive left boundary. If so, will he get more looks?
Harrison and Brooks, as the starting 'X' receiver, combined for only eight receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown on 22 targets in seven games.
It will be something to watch moving forward.
Will Wilson play the 'X', and will that position get more targets than before?
