The Detroit Lions conducted their final practice Friday in preparation for Sunday’s road game in Arizona against the Cardinals and released their final injury report of Week 5.
After all the chatter this week about safety Brian Branch potentially playing Sunday, he is out and won’t be activated from reserve/physically unable to perform. In addition, center Cade Mays is in the same boat and won’t be activated from injured reserve.
As for Branch, head coach Dan Campbell said Friday prior to the official status being announced, “He's looked good for two days. I think it's a tall order for this week. I want to be as smart as we can with him. We're going to work him back in and make sure that he gets enough reps and we all collectively feel like, 'Alright,
we're ready.' So, love where he's at right now.”
Contributing to the decision on Branch and Mays was that the Lions have their bye next week and then return to play the Packers in Week 7.
“They'll be here, but it won't be football,” Campbell said. “They won't have other teammates around. We're running plays, all that stuff, but they're going to be here continuing to condition, get ready, as football stuff as they can do without it being that with the training staff. And then let's get them going Green Bay week and then we'll assess. Hopefully by midweek, we'll have a pretty good idea. We'd love to get them ready to go versus Green Bay.”
