The Arizona Cardinals have done a lot to ensure that Jacoby Brissett is their starting quarterback. They made it know that he would be the starter. They gave him about a $10 million raise because he is their starter. He was named a team captain.
Could he end up being traded?
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler says it could happen.
Arizona's quarterback situation is underplayed, possibly because of the Cardinals' perceived noncontender status and Carson Beck being a third-round pick. But they absolutely have enough talent to move the ball, and Brissett averaged 280.5 passing yards per start over 12 games last season. If Brissett plays well but the Cardinals struggle to win, he could be a trade candidate at midseason. That opens a path for Arizona to see what
it has in Beck, who acquitted himself well in the preseason, before considering their 2027 draft options.
It is an interesting possibility. With the Cardinals expected to struggle in 2026, the presumption is that Beck will end up starting before the end of the season. How will Brissett take that, assuming he produces despite winning?
How would the locker room respond to a team captain being traded?
It would totally make sense. Brissett is not the future. He isn't expected to be on the team in 2027, at least right now. It would make sense to try and get something for him if the opportunity were to arise.
This is, though, creating an interesting hypothetical. If the Cardinals are bad, will Brissett be good, or will he return to the level he has played for most of his career, which is pretty ordinary?
It isn't something to worry about yet, but it is something to keep in the back of our minds.
