It was another successful week for Jess Root and me after both of us picked correctly in the eligible H-bomb big underdog games (+6.5 points or more) in Week 6.
For the third time this season, and to the surprise of many, I was successful by picking the Cardinals (+12.5) to cover in their road game against the LA Rams. Of course, not only did they cover, but the Cardinals were outright winners just as they were in Week 1 against the Chargers.
The Cardinals have covered in those three games when they were a combined 30.5-point underdog.
Jess won with his pick of the Commanders after they overcame a late 20-point deficit to the 49ers (-7.5) and lost 23-17.
The other three eligible games featured another direct hit (Tennessee +7 over Indianapolis),
one tie (N.Y. Jets +7 against New England) and one loss (L.A. Chargers +8 against the Chiefs.
That brings us to Week 7, where there are a mere three eligible games.
Week 7 big underdog games
- Houston Texans (-7) at home vs. N.Y. Giants
- Minnesota Vikings (-6.5) on the road vs. Indianapolis Colts
- L.A. Rams (-6.5) on the road vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Jess likes the Raiders to at least cover against the injury-riddled Rams, who placed four players on injured reserve this week: wide receiver Davante Adams, defensive linemen Kobie Turner, defensive lineman Poona Ford and kicker Blake Grupe. Many sportsbooks have this game below the 6.5-point threshold, but a few have it at 6.5.
I considered that game, but instead am going with the Giants to keep the game against the Texans close. Much will depend on how quarterback J.J. McCarthy plays as well as finding a way to run the ball.
H-bomb standings
Direct hit record (outright win) in parentheses
- Howard 4-2 (2)
- Jess 4-2 (0)
- Overall 17-8-3 (9)
