The Arizona Cardinals were not busy with the waiver wire over the weekend after teams cut their rosters down to 53 players. They were awarded no waiver claims, but one of their player cuts landed elsewhere.
The Tennessee Titans claimed linebacker Owen Pappoe off waivers. They were awarded three players in total.
Pappoe was among final cuts after rookie sixth-round pick Karson Sharar beat him out for the fourth inside linebacker job on the roster. And since the Cardinals re-signed Eugene Asante, the other inside linebacker they cut on Sunday, to the practice squad, they probably hoped that they could bring Pappoe back.
After all, he had logged over 300 special teams snaps in each of the last two seasons. In three seasons after being drafted in the fifth
round out of Auburn, he had 66 total tackles, five pass breakups and a forced fumble.
He will likely have a similar role with the Titans on special teams as he did with the Cardinals. He played only 96 defensive snaps last season, typically as part of their speed package with five or six linebackers on the field at the same time.
He now has a chance to make an impact elsewhere in the league.
