Running back Christian McCaffrey has been the catalyst for the San Francisco 49ers' offense since he joined the team. However, the 49ers have struggled to get a complementary back who could take some of the play load off his shoulders. It has only been two games, but perhaps they have an answer.
Through two games, McCaffrey has only 91 rushing yards on 20 attempts, averaging 4.6 yards per attempt. he has scored two rushing touchdowns. But he is actually second on the team in carries. Rookie Kaleon Black has 21 rushes for 90 yards in two games.
Black is a rookie out of Indiana, drafted by the Niners in the third round.
Together, they lead a 49ers rushing attack that is eighth in both yards and yards per attempt through two games.
Through two games,
the Cardinals are 22nd in run defense in terms of yards allowed and 16th in yards per attempt.
If the 49ers have a one-two punch at running back, it will be a lot to ask of the defense. They kick off Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET (1:05 p.m. Arizona time) on FOX.
