Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson will not hit free agency in the coming offseason. A day after one report suggested that he and the Cardinals would not get a deal done, they have agreed to a three-year extension that he will sign later on Thursday.
His new deal keeps him under contract through 2029 and will pay him $75 million, with $47 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He can earn as much as $78 million in the deal.
Wilson gets paid after his career season in 2025, when he caught 78 passes for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns.
He is now the highest-paid Cardinals player on the team, based on per-year average, and his extension ties him for 21st among average wide receiver salaries with Philadelphia's DeVonta
Smith.
Based on other receiver contracts, such as Green Bay's Christian Watson, who received an extension worth $23.5 million per year but has never had more than 41 receptions nor has he reached 700 yards in a season, the Wilson deal makes sense.
With the extension, the Cardinals have tight end Trey McBride and their top two receivers — Wilson and Marvin Harrison Jr. — under control through at least 2028.
