The Cardinals have a new No. 3 tight end on the roster, and it is the guy most thought would have that job coming out of the preseason. With Tip Reiman still on the PUP reserve recovering from a serious ankle injury he sustained last season and with Hunter Long getting placed on injured reserve with a knee injury he suffered in the Cardinals' 36-24 loss to the New York Giants, Teagan Quitoriano was signed from the practice squad to the active roster.
Quitoriano will now fill Long's role as No. 3 tight end and play on special teams.
Through four games, Long had played 91 snaps on offense and 57 on special teams. He had two receptions for 15 yards in four games.
Quitoriano signed with the Cardinals as a free agent in March, playing last season for
the Atlanta Falcons and the previous three for the Houston Texans.
He only has nine career receptions, but his 6-6, 259-pound frame gives the Cardinals another big blocking option.
In three seasons with the Texans, he appeared in 23 games, making 17 starts. Last season with the Falcons, he played in all 17 games, making one start. He played 133 snaps on offense but logged 239 on special teams. He had one tackle on special teams last season for Atlanta.
He is listed as the No. 3 tight end on the roster behind Trey McBride and Elijah Higgins. But if Quitoriano's usage matches Long's, he will get plenty of playing time. In four games, Higgins has 92 snaps. Long had 91.
Quitoriano will get his first game action this week against the Detroit Lions.
