We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Saturday, August 22, is 22 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
With 22 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 2022 season for the Cardinals.
A look back at the 2022 season for the Cardinals
The Cardinals had a rough 2022 season. The year after making the playoffs for the first time since 2015, they couldn't get out of their own way.
The offseason started with contract drama with Kyler Murray, head coach Kliff Kingsbury and general manager Steve Keim.
Keim and Kingsbury got extensions, and then Murray did in the summer after sitting out most of the offseason program.
They got blown out in Week 1 by the Kansas City Chiefs and
then never could get over .500. They never won consecutive games and finished 4-13. They lost their final seven games.
They fired their offensive line coach while in Mexico for alleged inappropriate behavior with a woman. Keim checked into rehab, Kyler Murray tore his ACL, DeAndre Hopkins played in only nine games and, after the season, Kingsbury was fired and Keim resigned.
2022 individual leaders, honors
Safety Budda Baker was the Cardinals' only Pro Bowler in 2022.
Before getting hurt, Murray passed for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions, and he rushed for three other touchdowns.
James Conner led the team with 782 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games.
Hollywood Brown, who played in 12 games, and Hopkins led in receiving. Brown had 67 catches for 709 yards and three scores. Hopkins had 64 for 717 and three touchdowns.
J.J. Watt had 12.5 sacks to lead the team, and he retired after the season.
