After a good showing in Week 1, the goodwill the Arizona Cardinals got has been forgotten. After their 31-7 home loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, they plummeted in the latest NFL power rankings from NFL.com's Nick Shook.
After leaping up to No. 19 in Week 2, they had the largest drop off any team in the league, falling 11 spots down to No. 30, the third-worst in the league in these rankings.
The good vibes from a Week 1 upset on the road vanished when the reigning champs came to town and suffocated the Cardinals’ offense, limiting Arizona to 151 yards in a lopsided game. The Cards didn’t put up much of a fight one week after battling to a victory.
Somehow, they are behind the Los Angeles Chargers, who lost to the Cardinals and then again
to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
The Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins are the only teams ranked below the Cardinals, and noth those teams are a mess.
This feels like an overcorrection of the Week 2 overcorrection. They aren't as good as they looked in Week 1, and they faced the defending champs in Week 2. They probably aren't as bad as the Seahawks made them look.
They have some talent but lack the ability to take over a game on either side of the ball. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett had the worst showing offensively for the Cardinals since Clayton Tune's disaster start in 2023.
Sadly, they face a better-than-expected San Francisco 49ers team on the road on Sunday, so things might not get any better.
