Arizona Cardinals receiver Michael Wilson is coming off a career season with more than 1,000 receiving yards. He is eligible for an extension. Nothing has happened yet, and it seemed as of Wednesday morning that nothing would get done.
ESPN's Dan Graziano reported that the team attempted to sign him to an extension, but that Wilson is more likely to become a free agent after the season.
The number people see is Alex Pierce's $28.5 million per year in Indianapolis. Wilson wants to be paid in line with the receiver market.
However, things apparently took a turn on Wednesday after that report.
According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, there was "movement" in contract talks, and something could happen this week.
The only contracts the Cardinals successfully
negotiated with current players this year who didn't sign in free agency were with quarterback Jacoby Brissett, and that took months, and center Hjalte Froholdt.
Wilson became a fan favorite and had huge games last season, and with a role expected to be similar to Puka Nacua in Los Angeles, another very productive season could be coming.
Green Bay's Christian Watson got an extension worth more than $23 million per year, and he hasn't had more than 620 yards or 41 catches in a season.
If a deal does get done, expect it to be in the $20-25 million per year range.
