We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Tuesday, September 1, is 12 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
With 12 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 2012 season for the Cardinals.
A look back at the 2012 season for the Cardinals
The 2012 season was an odd one. It started with training camp and the QB battle between Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. Kolb, acquired via trade in 2011, was banged up in much of the 2011 season, and Skelton helped the Cardinals finish 8-8.
Skelton won the job out of camp, but he injured his ankle in the second half of the Cardinals' season opener, and Kolb led the team to a win and then kept starting, beginning the season 4-0.
They lost for
the first time in Week 5, and Kolb was sacked nine times and hit a bunch more. The next week, he was knocked out of the game with a rib injury and didn't play again that season.
They lost 11 of their final 12 games, including a 58-0 embarrassment to the Seattle Seahawks, which ultimately ended Ken Whisenhunt's time as head coach. Skelton was eventually benched for Ryan Lindley, and Brian Hoyer started the season finale.
They scored the second-fewest points in the league.
2012 individual honors, leaders
The Cardinals had three Pro Bowlers in 2012:
- WR Larry Fitzgerald
- CB Patrick Peterson
- LB Daryl Washington
Peterson was also a second-team All-Pro.
Kolb was the team's leading passer with 1,169 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions. Skelton threw two touchdown passes and nine picks in six starts.
LaRod Stephens-Howling led the team with only 356 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Fitzgerald had 71 catches for 798 yards and four scores.
Washington was great with 134 tackles and nine sacks. Peterson had seven interceptions and broke up 16 passes.
