One of the biggest surprises when the Arizona Cardinals made their final cuts to get to their 53-man roster was cutting ties with cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting. He had $1.75 million in guaranteed salary, and he had been working all offseason as the starting nickel corner while Garrett Williams was recovering.
What was even more surprising was that the Cardinals didn't re-sign him to the practice squad, especially with the salary they already will be paying.
He might have opted not to sign with them, but he did land elsewhere. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad. He played his first four NFL seasons for the Bucs, so he is reunited with Todd Bowles, who was his defensive coordinator and then head coach all four seasons after
the Bucs drafted him.
The move means the Cardinals are off the hook for some of the money they owe him, as his practice squad salary offsets the guarantees.
Murphy-Bunting hasn't played in a regular-season game since 2024. He missed all last season with an offseason knee injury.
