The Arizona Cardinals must trim their roster down to 53 players by 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. Arizona time). While few of them have been reported early, one is not much of a surprise.
According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, the Cardinals are cutting cornerback Star Thomas V.
Thomas missed the 2025 season with a torn ACL and had been buried down the Cardinals' depth chart.
He has been with the Cardinals since 2023. He was an undrafted rookie who signed with the Detroit Lions initially, but was claimed by the Cardinals off waivers after he was cut before the season. Over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he played in 29 games, starting 22 of them. He had 85 total tackles, 11 pass breakups and a forced fumble.
He re-signed with the Cardinals this offseason on a one-year,
$1.475 million deal. None of his salary was guaranteed.
He could return to the practice squad, but he must clear waivers first.
