We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Saturday, August 29, is 15 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
With 15 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 2015 season for the Cardinals.
A look back at the 2015 season for the Cardinals
The 2015 season was special and very disappointing. They had their best record in team history, going 13-3, but injuries down the stretch made their trip to the postseason tough.
They lost in the NFC Championship Game 49-15, with quarterback Carson Palmer turning the ball over six times.
Safety Tyrann Mathieu tore his ACL late in the season and Palmer injured his finger in the regular-season finale.
They had a 10-game winning streak before
losing in their final game of the regular season.
THey won a thrilling overtime playoff game over the Green Bay Packers at home in the divisional round of the playoffs. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw a Hail Mary for a touchdown that sent the game to overtime, but Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald combined for two completions to score in overtime and win the game.
2015 individual honors, leaders
The Cardinals had several Pro Bowlers:
- QB Carson Palmer
- WR Larry Fitzgerald
- OL Mike Iupati
- DL Calais Campbell
- CB Patrick Peterson
- CB Justin Bethel (special teams)
- S Tyrann Mathieu
Palmer was second in MVP voting, fourth in Offensive Player of the Year and second in Comeback Player of the Year. He was a second-team All-Pro.
Peterson and Mathieu were both first-team All-Pros as well.
Palmer had the best passing season in Cardinals history. He passed for 4,671 yards, 35 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Chris Johnson led the Cardinals with 814 rushing yards, and rookie David Johnson burst onto the scene with 581 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. He scored 13 total touchdowns, as he had four touchdown catches and a kick returned for a score.
Fitzgerald led the team with 109 catches for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns. John Brown also passed 1,000 yards with 1,003 yards and seven scores.
Deone Bucannon led the defense with 112 total tackles. Dwight Freeney, a midseason additon, led with eight sacks. Matheiu and safety Rashad Johnson each picked off five passes, and Mathieu had a whopping 17 pass breakups.
