The Baylor Bears fired head football coach Dave Aranda, announcing the news Sunday morning. The move comes the day after they lost 25-24 to the Kansas Jayhawks, falling to 4-3 and 2-2 in Big 12 play.
He was in his seventh season as their head coach and finished his time in Waco with a 40-40 record. The Bears peaked in 2021, going 12-2 and winning the Sugar Bowl. He couldn't build on that momentum, and the program had just one winning season after that.
They are entering a short week and will play the UCF Knights Friday night on the road as they try to salvage the season. Defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman was named the interim head coach by Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Doug McNamee.
