The Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-3, 0-2 American) have been a tough team to figure out. They upset a now-ranked Oklahoma State squad in Week 1 but have lost their last three, including their first two conference games against North Texas by one and Navy by eight.
They have an opportunity to get right this week, though it comes on the road against the struggling Rice Owls (1-5, 0-2 American), who have lost five in a row and haven't beaten an FBS team in coach Scott Abell's second season.

The Golden Hurricane couldn't get the win last week, but they did get quarterback Baylor Hayes back from injury. That should help an offense that has been a bit one-dimensional in leaning on its ground game.
Rice isn't great on either side of the ball, but its option-based offense has been particularly rough. Quarterback Jacurri Brown has more than 500 yards on the ground, but he has attempted just 77 passes this season. Given that the Owls have run the ball nearly 300 times but average just 4.8 yards per carry, that's not exactly a recipe for offensive success.
While the defense hasn't been quite as bad, this matchup could be tough given its struggles against the run. Tulsa should be able to return to form here.
