The fallout from an internal investigation in Chapel Hill is continuing.
Not long after North Carolina Tar Heels general manager Michael Lombardi announced his resignation following an investigation into his conduct while working for the Tar Heels, the defensive coordinator is doing the same. On Thursday morning, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that DC Steve Belichick, the son of head coach Bill Belichick, is announcing his resignation.
For the past several weeks, Belichick has been on medical leave. Earlier this month, WRAL released a report that indicated the investigation at UNC has widened and now includes Belichick, with witnesses being questioned regarding potential drug use on the job or providing drugs to at least one player on the team.

There was initially a belief when Bill Belichick took over at UNC that his son, Steve, would eventually take over for him as the head coach in a succession plan. However, that obviously won't happen. According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, the familial succession could still be in play, though, with Belichick's other son, Brian — the current secondary coach at North Carolina — expected to take over defensive play-calling duties going forward.
The entire situation has been messy, and a dark spot on Bill Belichick's legacy as one of the greatest coaches in football history. We will see what the fallout continues to be, but at this point, things aren't looking great in Chapel Hill.
