It's been a bit of a struggle for Oklahoma and Brent Venables so far. The Sooners' offense has been stuck in neutral during a 17-10 Week 2 loss at Michigan, and during a Week 3 14-6 win against New Mexico. It's not exactly the type of performance fans have expected with a healthy John Mateer under center.
While Mateer hasn't played as well as he did before getting hurt last year, the Sooners have done him no favors with a non-existent ground game. Teams usually don't find their rhythm against Georgia if they've been struggling prior, but we'll see what happens this afternoon.

While Oklahoma's offense has struggled, the Sooners have been able to rely on their defense to keep them in games. However, that comfort might not be there today given Georgia's offensive talent, and the fact that defensive tackle David Stone was injured in a practice earlier this week. Even if he is able to suit up, he might not play a full complement of snaps.
On the other side, the Bulldogs have been firing on all cylinders, as they started their SEC schedule with a resounding 45-17 win at Arkansas last week. Running back Nate Frazier rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown last week, and head coach Kirby Smart thinkshe will be a full go today after getting a little banged up against the Razorbacks.
Mateer is talented enough to give the Sooners a fighting chance against Georgia, but given how much the deck is stacked against him, it wouldn't be prudent to wager on that taking place.
