The Ohio State Buckeyes' season just took a turn for the worse.
On Tuesday afternoon, head coach Ryan Day told media members that starting quarterback Julian Sayin is "out indefinitely" with an elbow injury suffered last weekend in a win over the Indiana Hoosiers, and the team is preparing for the possibility that he doesn't return at all this season.
Sayin suffered the injury to his throwing arm in the fourth quarter when he was hit by Hoosiers' defensive lineman Mario Landino while taking a sack. True freshman QB Luke Fahey came in and completed the game for the Buckeyes.
After the game, Day said that they expected Sayin could miss the next several weeks with the injury, but after gathering more information, it appears that the timeline might
be longer.
“We're not going to put any timeline on his recovery, but he is out indefinitely," Day said on Tuesday.
In the win, Sayin threw for 235 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, and he is up to 2,007 yards, 19 TDs, and four INTs so far this season. Going forward, this could be a potentially devastating injury for Ohio State to deal with. The Buckeyes have one of the toughest schedules in the nation this year, and the path doesn't get any easier from here. Next week, Ohio State fortunately has a bye week before they travel west to face the No. 19 USC Trojans, then host the currently unranked Oregon Ducks back in Columbus.
