As Texas fans remember all too well, the Longhorns' first game of 2025 didn't go that well. There will be an opportunity next week to get revenge against Ohio State, but Texas might be as motivated as any team in the country to get the first win in the books after what happened last season.
Texas State also hopes they are on to bigger and better things under fourth-year head coach G.J. Kinne. The Bobcats won the last four games of the season in 2025 and are hoping to carry a little bit of that momentum into 2026 as members of the Pac-12 after they departed from the Sun Belt.

Despite finishing with a 3-5 record in the Sun Belt last season, Texas State brought a lot of offensive firepower to the field, and figures to do so again here in 2026. Quarterback Brad Jackson finished second in the conference in passing yards a year ago, and receivers Beau Sparks and Chris Dawn Jr. finished first and fourth respectively in receiving yards in the Sun Belt in 2025.
All three players returned to the Bobcats this year, which gives them the ability to strike quickly through the air against a superior opponent like No. 5 Texas. However, Texas State lost top rusher Lincoln Pare to the NFL, which leaves their ability to feature a balanced attack as a question mark.
Arch Manning and the loaded Longhorns should be able to flip the script in the first game of the season in 2026, but expect the Bobcats to be friskier than the general public might expect.
