It's been a rough go of late for the Panthers, who enter this game having lost three straight contests. Head coach Dell McGee has a career 2-18 record in conference play with Georgia State, and one would think things would have to turn around quickly in order for him to confidently remain at his post moving forward.
On the other side, the Mountaineers have had some euphoric highs and some disappointing lows. They took down James Madison a couple weeks ago in what was their best win of the season, but fell last week 19-3 against Georgia Southern and showed little life.

Despite the three-game skid, the Panthers feature some of the most impactful players in the Sun Belt. Running back Qwantavius Wiggins leads the conference in yards per carry at 6.9, and wide receiver Rodshaun Dorsey leads the conference in touchdown catches with eight. Additionally, Panthers defensive lineman Xavier Esquillon leads the Sun Belt in sacks with seven.
With that said, Appalachian State has proven to be the more reliable team, even in a season where their performance has fluctuated from week to week. Running back Jaquari Lewis leads the team with 431 yards rushing and eight touchdowns, and figures to be a major factor in this game.
Given the talent Georgia State brings to the table, the possibility for a traditional cover or a backdoor cover feels pretty high, which makes the spread a dicey proposition. It would make a little more sense to target the over/under, where the under feels like the best bet.
